"Margaret's Cottage" is located on the beautiful County Down coast overlooking the Irish Sea. It was formerly a single storey
fisherman's cottage, built about 1750, against the ruin of the
fortified dwelling known locally as "Margaret's Castle" -
hence the name.
In 1820 it was acquired by the Irish Lights Company, which had
responsibility for all the lighthouses of Ireland. For the
next 116 years the cottage served as the home of successive lighthouse
keepers.
In 1936 the cottage was sold to a local Ardglass family, and in
1979 a first floor was added, in mansard style, with a fine lounge
and bedrooms overlooking the famous Ardglass golf club and the Irish sea. |

The complete structure was further renovated to an exceptionally
high standard during the year 2000, and is now the home of Sue
and Chris Avern, whose pleasure it is to entertain
guests at all times of the year at their B&B.
At the rear of the cottage - accessed from the First Floor Dining
Room - is a pleasant garden seating area which
receives the sun from mid-morning till sunset - just the
place to relax by yourself with a glass of wine and a book, or with a friend
or two.
If you're looking for a golfing holiday, sailing, fishing or a holiday base we can offer you excellent B&B accommodation. Sample Aldo's Italian restaurant next door along with many other fine local restaurants and pubs - all within a 1-2 minute stroll. Margaret's Cottage is an ideal base for your stay in County Down, Northern Ireland.
